Far from futuristic sci-fi designs, Kylo Ren’s unusual-looking lightsaber actually derives from an “ancient design, dating back thousands of years.” Known as crossguard blades or quillions, these were designs for ancient swords, which were used in battle. Their “ragged, unstable appearance” is the result of a cracked kyber crystal within.

Most interestingly, the island nation of Niue in the South Pacific started accepting collectible Star Wars coins as actual currency, as of 2011. The coins are embossed with Star Wars characters and have become legal tender on this Polynesian island, located 1,500 miles off the coast of New Zealand. The special commemorative coins have a face value of one and two NZ dollars. However, collectors are unlikely to spend them because a set costs cost approximately USD$ 17 to purchase from the New Zealand Mint and are set to be worth much more in the future.

The new wave of star wars movies is not just another trilogy plugging a well-established franchise. It will also include 3 other movies about some of the characters’ origins. The first anthology film, which will be out in 2016, will be ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ and takes place between ‘Revenge of the Sith’ and the movie set for cinemas in 2018, which will be called ‘A New Hope’. The second film in the anthology is an Untitled Han Solo movie, which precedes the events of ‘A New Hope’ which is scheduled for release in 2020. The as-yet Untitled Boba Fett Anthology film is the third in the series, which precedes the events of ‘The Empire Strikes Back’.

The Return of the Jedi almost had a very different ending from the one where the son discovers his father’s identity, while the father is in turn able to redeem himself. In a story-development session for the plotting of the storyline of ‘Return of the Jedi’, George Lucas toyed with the idea of after having Luke proclaim “Now I am Vader” as he removes the dying Vader’s helmet, wearing it himself and turning to the dark side.
