The rapper,activist, poet and actor from East Harlem Tupac Shakur was fatally wounded during a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas. He died in hospital and his body was cremated the next day. For a long time, it was rumoured that some of his ashes were mixed with marijuana and smoked by members of his Outlawz hip hop crew.However, in 2014 E.D.I. Mean claimed that he eventually found that the ashes smoked were not really those of the legendary rapper.

Frenchman Jean Nicot (who lent his name to the word nicotine) is credited for introducing tobacco to France in 1560. Tobacco quickly spread throughout Europe and across the channel to England, where the first Englishman to have been reported smoking was a sailor in Bristol in 1556. It is rumoured that the first European who learnt to smoke from the natives was arrested, as he was thought to have been possessed by the Devil. The smoke emitted from his nostrils, presumably, did little to make his case to the contrary.
